要旨

In India, a goal is set to break the stagnation of pulse production. Towards this, various strategies and interventions are put into the practice. The real perspective however lies in making use of convergent technologies, wherein satellite remote sensing plays an enabling role in terms of (i) generating in-season crop statistics for mid-course corrections through efficient use of agricultural inputs, (ii) bringing out agro-ecological aspects of crop suitability, (iii) assessing the yield gaps potential vs. actual, and (iv) developing the location specific prescriptions for soil and water conservations. The present paper, based on the several case studies drawn from India, highlights the holistic approach for enhanced pulse production and focuses on the criticality of remote sensing therein.
