要旨
Generally, geologic maps on the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are intended for use by both the geoscience professional and the general public. The geological map contains graphical elements such as line symbols, point symbols, and colored or patterned areas to represent geological information such as the dip-strike of strata, fault, and axis of fold, as well as the geometry, orientation, and character of the geologic structures that have deformed them .For correct understanding of the geological history and recognition of the geologic structure, it is necessary to express these symbols on the geologic map. Therefore, the geologic symbol is indispensable geological map on GIS. However, it is difficult to express many symbols of the geologic map in general purpose GIS. The present paper discusses the implementation and visualization for the geologic map symbol in the Open Source GRASS GIS environment.
